Installation
There are several different ways to install SCIM in Mandriva Linux.
Install with the distribution
SCIM is part of the distribution since Mandrakelinux 10.1 and used as the default input method for CJK and Amharic. The default IM of Vietnamese has changed from x-unikey to scim since 2006. If you choose any of those languages when you install/upgrade the distribution, SCIM and the following IM modules will be automatically installed with other required packages if any.

skim as well as other scim-* packages (such as scim-fcitx, scim-skk) is not installed by default but included in the online repository.
Using localedrake
When run as root, localedrake also installs IM packages according to your language selection. If you select a language that is not listed in the above table and SCIM as the input method, generic modules will be installed.
Using urpmi
urpmi is a console-based software installation tool. It checks dependencies and installs all required packages including those listed in the table below.

It is very easy to use. For example, the following command will install scim, scim-anthy and anthy.
urpmi scim-anthy
If you prefer GUI, you can do the exact same thing using the software management tool (rpmdrake) in Mandriva Linux Control Center.
Consideration the limited space of CD, skim might be not avaliable in CDs/ISOs of the distribution (especially Free Download edition), but you can always install it from online repository. skim locates in contrib before 2006, main in 2006 and after. Rpmdrake or Easy Urpmi might help you when adding online repository.
Install from source
If you are using an older version of the distribution or want to use a newer version of SCIM than the one included in the distribution, you need to install from source tarballs (unless you run cooker). In that case, please follow the instructions in All .
After installation is finished, open gedit, right click in the input field and make sure that 'SCIM Input Method' appears in the Input Methods menu. If it is not found there, issue the following command as root, which will enable you to use scim-gtk-immodule in GTK applications.
gtk-query-immodules-2.0 > /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules.lib
It seems that gtk.immodules.lib is a Mandriva Linux specific file name.
